ECDC welcomes author Elizabeth Osta Oct. 13

The Erie Canal Discovery Center is pleased to welcome regional author Elizabeth Osta who will present a free, public program about her new historical fiction book entitled, “Jeremiah’s Hunger.” The presentation will take place at 11 a.m. Oct. 13.
Osta’s title character, Jeremiah Buckley, buries his baby sister and his mother in a hillside in County Cork, Ireland, in the midst of “The Great Hunger” in 1845, his grief turns to rebellion and endless work, as he becomes determined to achieve a dream which will echo over the centuries as far away as America.
Osta has been writing since she can remember and began using a typewriter as a pre-teen to capture her stories. Throughout her life, she has been given numerous awards for her work, including the Democrat and Chronicle Golden Pen award. Her recent journey with breast cancer brought her new insights that she writes about on survivorsreview.org. Elizabeth is currently working on her memoir and when not writing, enjoys her role with the Irish American Cultural Institute as well as attending the Sons of Italy meetings. She and her husband Dave enjoy travel, biking, and sailing, kayaking, cross country skiing, hiking and camping.
Joining Osta for this presentation will be singer Kitty Forbush, who will share some Celtic lyrics related to “Jeremiah’s Hunger.” Forbush is an oncology nurse and a featured singer of the National Anthem at Red Wings Stadium in Rochester for the Mother’s Day game that supports Breast Cancer.
Osta will be pleased to sign copies of her book during the program at the Erie Canal Discovery Center, 24 Church St., Lockport.
Books are currently available for $19.95 at the Discovery Center and Niagara County History Center.
