Firefighters lend a hand to one another

The City of Tonawanda Fire Department has become involved in assisting those firefighters and their families located in the New York City and Long Island areas who were hit by Hurricane Sandy.

An organization known as Friends of Firefighters, has established a relief program to assist those firefighters who were affected. Through the New York State Association of Firefighters, local fire departments have been contacted and asked to assist by donating items that would be useful for the affected firefighters and their families.

Such items include:

Water

Clorox bleach

Garden spray

Flashlights with batteries

Diapers

Baby formula

Toilet paper

Paper towels

Toiletries (soap, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine hygienic products)

Work gloves

Granola bars

Socks, hats, gloves Hand and feet warmers

Trash bags

Duraflame logs

Hand sanitizer Sleeping bags and blankets

Halligans Generators

City of Tonawanda Firefighter, Joshua Lapham, who is coordinating the department’s efforts, stated that we must assist these firefighters who not only have to endure significant personal hardships, but also must continue to serve their communities on a continuous basis day to day. By providing whatever we can, this will help those affected firefighters get through this ordeal that much easier.

Anyone wishing to help can do so by bringing donations to Tonawanda Fire Headquarters located at 44 William St., Tonawanda.
