TONAWANDA - The Town of Tonawanda and Erie County tax bill were mailed out on or before Jan. 15, according to Town Clerk Marguerite Greco, and town property owners can submit payments now.
“We have in place, multiple payment options to aid taxpayers in fulfilling their town and county responsibilities by the Friday, February 15 deadline,” stated Greco.
Tax payments by check or money order can be mailed to the town clerk’s office, 2919 Delaware Ave., Rm. 14 Municipal Building, Kenmore, N.Y. 14217-2308. To pay in person, the office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and for added convenience, on Feb. 15 the office will be open until 8 p.m.
Additionally, a drop-box is located on the Delaware Road side of the municipal building, by the handicap entrance (near the rear of the building). You may use this to pay your taxes any time day or night, including weekends.
If tax payments are being made on-line, through your bank, payments must be received at least 10 days prior to due date. These checks are not electronically deposited to the tax office account.
Residents wishing to pay by credit card can visit the town’s website, www.tonawanda.ny.us and click “Pay Taxes On-Line.” Transaction terms and conditions apply. Credit payments may be made using MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express, check debit card, electronic check or ACH transfer. All transactions are subject to third party service fees; $2.50 for payments $1to $100 or 2.5 percent for payments higher than $100. Online payments post immediately to the town tax system. The deadline for online payments is 11:58 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15. Payments made after the deadline will be subject to late fees and penalties. Credit card payments can also be made over the phone by calling the town clerk’s office, during business hours at 877-8800, ext. 810.
The last day to pay your 2013 tax bill, without penalty, is Friday, Feb. 15. Any payment received in person or postmarked (U.S. Post Office only) after that day will be assessed penalties and interest as set forth on the back of your tax bill. The date of payment cannot be determined by the date of the check or the date the funds are with-drawn from your account.
