For more of a personal feel at a local café, residents can visit Mimi’s Central Perk Café, a new hot spot located in Downtown Lancaster.
Lancaster residents and Owners of Mimi’s Central Perk Café, Frank and Sherri Sikora, opened the doors to the cafe Friday, Aug. 3.
“We are so excited,” exclaimed Sherri. “I love Lancaster and everybody kept saying it would be nice to have a café. It was always our dream, my husband and I, to have a restaurant because we both cook. We love to cook. So, we wanted to start out small with a café and eventually expand into soups, roast beef, and bigger and better things.”
If you stop by at Mimi Central Perk Café and speak to Frank or Sherri, you will find out this is truly a dream come true for them and they can’t wait to grow their business and meet the residents that make up the community.
Mimi’s Central Perk Café is a great place to go after work to unwind for the day, read a book, or just surf net while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. The café will soon offer Wifi and customers can sit inside or outside of the café.
“This is for the community too because they need something, somewhere to go and sit down,” remarked Sherri.
Customers can choose from a variety of drinks including espresso, hot or iced; cappuccino, hot or iced; lattes, hot or iced; Chai Tea; and the cafe’s own coffee brews, Mimi’s Dark Roast, Jamaican Me Smile, House Decaf, and House Blend. The café also offers strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, banana, caramel, and strawberry banana smoothies. Fresh fruit is used for all blended drinks.
“I received so many compliments during the Taste of Lancaster,” said Sherri. “Everybody loved the smoothies. They were coming back for them. It is a dream comes true.”
For those customers with a sweet tooth, try Sherri’s homemade cookies or other pastries offered such as croissants, muffins, or Danishes. Also, to cool down on a hot day, enjoy a Gelato, which is Italian ice cream. Some of the flavors include birthday bash, coconut, hazelnut, sweet cream, peanut butter, and chocolate.
Sherri commented that she envisions holding open mic nights for local musicians at the café, game nights, and maybe even a reading group. She is opened to any ideas.
The café can also accommodate small parties of any kind.
To open the café, Sherri retired from being a substitute teacher and in about a year or so Frank will retire and join Sherri at the café full time.
“When he retires we will go full blown and offer meals,” said Sherri. “Our big thing is we will expand. We will have homemade soups and my husband makes a great roast sirloin. We will also offer salads and wraps.”
But the next step for the café Sherri said is to offer breakfast, which will include fresh fruits and egg breakfast sandwiches.
“It is a lot of work, but it is worth it,” Sherri said.
Mimi’s Central Perk Café is located at 24 Central Ave., in Lancaster. The café is opened 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. In the future, the café will be open Sundays mornings. Also, the café will stay open longer during holidays and any open house events. To contact the café call 683-0104.
