LANCASTER- Another tragic fatality occurred Thursday, July 5, involving a 53-year-old Middleport resident, who was struck by a SUV that had turned left into his path
At 7:39 a.m., Mark B. Milliman was on his way to work traveling west on Walden Avenue when a 2012 Chevrolet Suburban, traveling east, made a left hand turn onto Ransom Road and hit Milliman, who was driving a 1999 Honda motor scooter.
According to police officials, the traffic light at the intersection was green and Milliman had the right of way.
The Lancaster Volunteer Ambulance Corps (LVAC) responded to the scene and confirmed Milliman was deceased.
The speed of the vehicle, cell phone usage, and drugs and alcohol have all been ruled out as to the cause of the crash, but because the vehicle was traveling east into the sun glare was cited as an apparent contributing factor to this accident, said Lancaster Police Chief Gerald J. Gill Jr.
The SUV driver’s name has not been released, but according to police the driver has been charged with failure to yield the right of way while making a left turn.
“The increase volume of traffic is a genuine concern for us,” remarked Gill. “There’s no doubt.”
