Three unique cooking demonstrations by local experts were the highlight of the morning. Visual demonstrations included a noodle bar demonstration by Mike Latona, chef manager at Eurest Dining Services; a pure and infused olive oil demonstration by Debbie Bouyea of D’Avolio’s Olive Oil; and a sample of vegan cupcakes from Dolci Specialty Bakery by David Simpson.
Chef JJ Richert, of Torches Restaurant and the Smoke on the Water restaurant, demonstrated how to craft a pulled pork "ice cream" cone using mashed potatoes as the "ice cream" and barbecue sauce as the topping. Richert is a graduate of Erie 1 BOCES culinary program at Harness Career & Technical Center. He has also competed in the Nickel City Chef culinary competition which pits the finest chefs in WNY in a cooking showdown. Wegman's human resources department was on hand to speak to the students about career path opportunities.
