Clarence High School celebrates homecoming
“We really go for unity and try to encourage all the kids to be involved and to be proud of their school,” said Kevin Starr, student council advisor.
All four grades will be decorating the main hall of the school. This will give all the students, as one group, the opportunity to participate in showing off their school spirit.
Beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 9, students will dress according to themes for each day of the week. Tuesday is Buffalo pride day. On Wednesday, they will purposefully try to wear the most mismatched outfit they can find in their closets to fit in with mismatched day. For Thursday, students can dress in anything that ends in the letters ER.
“Anyone who dresses as a doctor, we know is a bad speller,” Starr said with a laugh.
Friday will be school pride day. Seniors and freshman are encouraged to wear black and sophomores and juniors are asked to wear red. This will add to the school pride while students fill the gym for the pep rally after school.
The Powder Puff Football Game will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Senior girls will compete against junior girls while being cheered on by their male cheerleaders.
At 7 p.m. on Wednesday there will be the Mr. Clarence competition. Clarence High School male students can compete to be crowned Mr. Clarence and will carry the title through homecoming week.
The homecoming parade will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and will begin at Pauly’s Pizza on Main Street in Clarence and will end at the high school. Each grade will have a float that students have already begun decorating. The floats will be judged on parade day and a first place prize will be awarded to the best one.
Although competitions may not seem to be the most unifying activities, they are for a good cause. Each competition that is held throughout the week will raise money that will be donated to different charities.
Not only do the students help raise money while competing but Starr also added that, “it really does bring everybody together.”
The Clarence Red Devils will take on Jamestown at the homecoming football game at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13 at home.
Following the game, the homecoming dance will be from 7 – 11 p.m. on Saturday at the high school.
Student council sponsors the entire week. Varsity Club sponsors the powder puff game and the Class of 2013 sponsors the Mr. Clarence competition.
