BUFFALO - The American Red Cross will hold a special Veterans Day blood drive from noon until 4:30 p.m. on Monday Nov. 12 in the Parish Social Hall at the Church of Assumption, 435 Amherst St.

The Red Cross is encouraging all eligible blood donors to donate blood in honor of our veterans, past and present.

This is the perfect opportunity to give back in honor of those that have given so much to protect and serve our country by rolling up your sleeve to help those in need of blood.

The Red Cross is also collaborating with Niagara Falls Airbase to collect donated items at this blood drive to be sent to military service members overseas.

“The American Red Cross is inviting eligible blood donors to give blood in honor of our courageous veterans past and present,” said Kay Schwartz, chief executive officer, New York-Penn region.

“It is a wat to thank our veterans for their noble contributions while helping patients in need by donating lifesaving blood.”

You never know when someone, even a member of your own family, may need a blood transfusion in order to survive.

In fact, every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. It truly is the blood on the shelves today that helps save lives tomorrow.

The only source of blood is a healthy, volunteer blood donor. Your donation can help save up to three lives and it only takes about an hour of time.

All eligible donors are encouraged to make an appointment to donate blood and to reach out to family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to do the same.

As a way of saying thank you, all presenting donors will receive a coupon for Mighty Taco and have the opportunity to enter two great raffles.

Additionally, all presenting donors can enter a drawing for a $200 gift card that can be used toward the cost of heating their home, courtesy of Suburban Propane.

To make an appointment, call 1-800-Red CROSS or by visiting redcrossblood.org.
