Annual tennis tournament

Sign-ups for the annual Lockport Tennis Tournament will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28 and 6:30 to 8 p.m. July 30, at Lockport High School courts off Lincoln Avenue. In case of rain, sign-ups will be held in the school’s new gym foyer.

The tourney is open to those who live and/or work in Niagara and Orleans Counties, Grand Island and the Ken-Ton School District.

The tournament draws more than 100 youth and adult entries each year. The past two years the event was played outside of Lockport as the Niagara County Tennis Tournament.

Age groups are from 10-under through 50-over. Entrants are guaranteed two matches.

Play will be held from Aug. 4 through Aug. 11 at Lockport High School and at Altro Park in Lockport.

Ages are as of Aug. 1, 2012. The tourney director Dave Shambach reserves the right to cancel and combine categories.

A list of rules and more detailed information on tournament dates and times will be provided at the registration desk.

Entrants must provide a new can of tennis balls for each match. A $12 entry fee per youth per event will be charged.

Adults will pay $17 for a singles entry, $26 per team for doubles events, including Parent/Child events.

Prizes from Barbara Scirto Sullivan’s Awards will be awarded to first and second place winners, as well as consolation bracket winners.

The tournament is sponsored by the Lockport Department of Youth and Recreation Services.
