Members of the Town of Hamburg Police, New York State Police and the Lackawanna Police came out on Thursday (Sept. 20) to help raise money for the Special Olympics New York, as part of the statewide “Law and Orders Day” with Applebee’s Restaurant.

In a three-hour span, with 12 participating stores in the area, $7,572 was raised, with $852 being raised at the Milestrip Road location in Hamburg. The officers were there to greet customers, bus tables and serve guests, who in turn were asked to donate any tips to the Special Olympics New York and the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which also raises money for the organization.

The next scheduled fundraising events are on Friday, Oct. 5 for “Cops on Top” from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Dunkin’ Donuts (Lutz’s Market on Camp Road and Southwestern Boulevard) where police officers will sit on top of the store and lower down buckets for Special Olympics donations.

From noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, officers will be working with the staff at Red Robin Restaurant at Quaker Crossing in Orchard Park.
