BREAKING NEWS: Sandra Anzalone named new Eden Superintendent

The Eden Central School board appointed Sandra Anzalone as its new Superintendent of

Schools. The vote, taken today at a special board meeting, was unanimous. Anzalone leaves her

position as Principal of Grand Island High School to take over as Superintendent at Eden on

March 18.

The board began the search for a new Superintendent in late 2012, which involved a

number of stakeholder groups such as teachers, students, parents and community leaders in the

interview process. Stakeholder groups provided valuable input to the Board to aid in making a

final decision.

“We are very pleased that Mrs. Anzalone will be joining our district,” said Steven Cerne,

board of education president. “We have set some aggressive goals and we need a strong leader

to help us reach them. We are confident in her ability to take our schools to the next level of

performance.”

Anzalone holds a certificate of advanced study in Educational Leadership/Facilitation and

a Master’s Degree in Learning and Behavioral Disorders from the State University College at

Buffalo, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Geological Sciences from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She has continued her education through SUNY Oswego with coursework in the NYS Superintendent

Development Program and Fiscal Navigation.

Mrs. Anzalone brings more than 28 years of experience in the field of education. She has

served as a middle school teaching assistant, summer preschool teacher, high school special

education teacher, study skills consultant, elementary and high school assistant principal and

currently as high school Principal.

As Principal, Anzalone’s achievements include, partnering with local organizations to

address the needs of at-risk students and increase student community service initiatives,

organizing a school/town consortium to address underage drinking and drug use, increasing staff

communication with parents and expanding student instructional options with local colleges.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Eden school community,” said Anzalone. “Throughout

the interview process, I had an opportunity to experience the great commitment that this

community and the school board have for its’ children and their education. Yes, we have set

some aggressive goals and I know that by working together we will empower our students to

soar past each and every one of them.”

Anzalone received the 2009 Woman Administrator of the Year Award from

Western New York Women in Educational Leadership and the Parent-Teacher Association

Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. She resides in Lawtonswith her husband.

Richard Schaefer, Acting Superintendent at Eden, will return to his post as Principal of

Eden Elementary when Anzalone arrives in March. “Mr. Schaeffer has maintained stability

and provided effective leadership to our schools during this time of transition,” said Kristen

Pinker, board vice president.
