Erie County sheriff warns against sign pranks

BY: Press Release | January 11, 2013

COLLINS — Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard reported that his office is investigating pranks involving county highway signs in the Collins and North Collins areas.

In December, the Erie County Division of Highways discovered that the road name signs at the intersection of Genesee and New Oregon roads had been switched with each other.

It was recently discovered that the stop signs at the intersection of Jennings and Shirley roads had also been switched. While the stop signs were normally located on Shirley Road, they were changed so motorists on Jennings Road were instructed to stop.

Howard has asked that members of the public be aware of any suspicious vehicles or individuals near intersections in the area, as well as any signs that appear to have been tampered with.

To report incidents or provide information to the police, call the Erie County Sheriff’s Office at 858-2903.
