Three Lockport actors – Judy Rodriguez, Gary Rodriguez and Jon May – are performing in the Niagara Regional Theatre Guild (NRTG) production of “1776,” a musical play about the writing and passage of the Declaration of Independence.
Judy Rodriguez plays the role of Abigail Adams, whose letters to and from John Adams are the foundations of the play. Gary Rodriguez plays Dr. Lyman Hall, the Georgia delegate to the Continental Congress. Gary and Judy – a husband and wife team – have appeared together in more than 30 shows both nationally and internationally.
They have performed in several local productions and reviews with the Four Seasons Players in Lockport.
Jon May, a seasoned actor, singer and director, appears in his second NRTG production. He is cast as Edward Rutledge, the delegate from South Carolina, and plays a powerful role as the member of Congress that refuses to sign unless critical issues involving slavery and sovereignty of the colonies are clearly defined.
“1776” is the first production of the 2012-2013 NRTG Season – their 90th Year. This musical will be presented at the Ellicott Creek Playhouse, 530 Ellicott Creek Road in Tonawanda, NY 14150. Evening performance dates are Oct. 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. Matinees are Oct. 7 and 14 at 3 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 284-6358 for advanced sale (discounted) tickets or at the door at regular admission price.
