Mt. St. Mary names salutatorian and valedictorian

KENMORE - Claire Kirby, an Amherst resident, will be Mount St. Mary Academy’s Class of 2012 Valedictorian, and Taylor Speer of Lockport has been named as the class’s Salutatorian. Kirby and Speer will be recognized at Mount St. Mary Academy’s Commencement Exercises, which will be held on June 3.

Kirby has earned a 99.78 average over her four years at Mount St. Mary’s, consistently landing at the head of the class. She serves as student council president as well as president of the school’s Marching Band. Kirby was the recipient of the University of Pittsburgh Full Tuition Honors Scholarship and accrued more than $321,000 in scholarship offers from colleges across the country. Kirby plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh, where she will study speech pathology.

Speer has achieved a 97.94 average, receiving First Honors recognition throughout her high school career. She is senior class president and will attend Canisius College where she intends to pursue a business degree. Speer received more than $268,000 in scholarship offers.

Mount St. Mary Academy will graduate its 81st class on June 3. Collectively, the class has received over $10 million in scholarships from colleges and universities throughout the country. The ceremony will be held in the school’s auditorium, and the class will be addressed by Dr. Christine Ambrosone ’68, chair of the Department of Cancer Prevention and Control and professor of Oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
