NORTH TONAWANDA/TONAWANDA - The North Tonawanda Elks Club #860 continues to help others even though it does not have a permanent home after the devastating fire on December 10.“Our local Elks Club applied for and received a national grant which is being used to help our communities,” said Laurel Dolpp, exalted ruler, BPOE Lodge #860. “The grant enables us to help the Boys and Girls Clubs of both Tonawanda and North Tonawanda, the YWCA program against domestic violence, and Twin Cities Community Outreach (TCCO).”
A check for $500 was presented to Twin Cities Community Outreach recently.
Roberta Seekins, Treasurer of TCCO noted, “Twin Cities Community Outreach is the home for the North Tonawanda Interchurch Food Pantry, NT Clothes Closet, and North Tonawanda Meals on Wheels. This one gift serves all three agencies.”
Although the Elks Club building at Sweeney and Main streets is gone they continue to meet at Sweeney Hose, on the second Tuesday of July and August during the summer. They are continuing with their principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity within the community.
“Our funding for TCCO comes from the Tonawanda and North Tonawanda communities. Support comes from individual donations, business gifts, help from corporations, churches, clubs, civic groups, and other organizations which provide financial assistance,” stated Seekins.
Seekins also mentioned that TCCO will soon be having their annual “Basket Bonanza” at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 7 at Sikora Post American Legion Hall, 950 Payne Avenue, in North Tonawanda.
