Symbolic 4-Hers chosen for 75th anniversary

Nine year olds Miranda VanBuren and Eli Pries were named 2012 Symbolic 4-Hers and will represent all Niagara County 4-Hers during their 75th Anniversary celebrations.

Miranda, a fourh-grader at Akron Central School, is completing her first year as a member of the Wolcottslville Wildcats 4-H Club. She is the daughter of Lisa and Brian VanBuren. This year she enjoyed one of the 4-H mottos,“Learning by Doing,” while working on crafts, foods projects and public presentations.

She has exhibits ready to bring to the Niagara County Fair, Aug. 1 through Aug. 5, and is looking forward to serving fairgoers at the 4-H Milk Bar.

Eli is an individual 4-H member and is a fourth-grader at Thomas Marks Elementary School in Wilson. He is the son of Glenn and Jennifer Pries.

Eli helps with planting and caring for his family’s vegetable garden. Eli says they have many animals and he plans to bring goats, pigs and chickens to the fair along with his crafts and baking. Fairgoers will also find Eli in the 4-H Pie Kitchen and Milk Bar.

Both Mirada and Eli will assist with the flag presentation at 8 a.m. Aug. 1 at the Farm City Breakfast and attend the 4-H bench dedication to Norm Sinclair following the breakfast.

They will also be on hand for the 4-H Alumni Luncheon at noon on Aug. 4, followed by the Cake Quilt cutting and Square Dance; and lastly at Fair Closing Ceremonies on 5 p.m. Aug. 5.
