KENMORE?AMHERST - There’s no better way to cool off on a hot summer day than with a frozen treat, especially when it’s for a good cause.
This year, Anderson’s Ice Cream is hosting a “Brain Freeze” ice cream eating contest to support the Variety Kids Telethon, a children’s charity of Buffalo and Western New York. The event is being held at their Kenmore location, 2235 Sheridan Drive, at 5 p.m. July 17. The entry fee is only $10 with all proceeds going to help children in need.
Participants will be served three scoops of vanilla ice cream in a bowl and the person who eats the entire thing first will be named the winner; but can they do it without getting a brain freeze?
That is the question.
The contest will be split up into five age groups. The first and second place winners of each age category will be asked to participate in the Scooper Grand Finale Championship on August 10; where the real ice cream eating champion of Western New York will be named.
Winners could receive up to a year supply of ice cream quarts and cones, but all participants will get an official “Brain-Freeze” T-shirt to take home just for signing up.
There’s also other ways to help out Variety Kids; “Quarts for a Cause” will be available for purchase at the event. Each quart will have a $5 gift certificate in it for Anderson’s, along with a chance to win other prizes.
The event is sponsored by Sahlen’s, Costanzo’s Bakery, Chudy Paper, Pepsi, Modern Recycling, The Mac Groups, US Food, Paper Distributors Incorporated, Diversified Dairy and Depew Dairy.
Potential ice cream champions must hand in their registration form before the day of the event.
The “Brain Freeze” contest is also being held at other Anderson’s locations:
• July 16: 4855 Transit Rd., Lancaster
• July 23: 6075 Main Street., Williamsville
• July 24: 2369 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst
• July 30: 3724 Union Rd., Cheektowaga
• July 31: 2634 Delaware Ave., Buffalo
