Planning Board meeting held in Town of Dayton

The Town of Dayton Planning Board met for the first time in 2013 to discuss and arrange the agenda for upcoming meetings.

The board unanimously agreed to meet once monthly, the third Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Dayton Town Hall.

One topic on the table was the Comprehensive Plan, which was developed and approved in 2009 and required to be to reviewed and revised every five years as needed.

The status of several previously developed policies and ordinances presented to the town board need to be finalized and filed. For example: Noise and Roadside Stands ordinances, Wind Energy, and Dog Control policies, which require public hearings for presentation to the residents of the town for comment prior to completion.

The Planning Board needs to be kept abreast of any changes in local code and zoning laws, policies or ordinances prior to adoption and implementation. Questions arose regarding needed changes to the Comprehensive Plan and it was agreed that each member will review the current plan and note where changes may be needed for future planning, such as cottage industries, rental properties, zoning changes, business and commercial, mining, forestry, green space, tourism and recreational activities, adult entertainment areas, and gas drilling/fracking.

The board welcomes new members who would like to join this committee and involve themselves in the development and coordination of the planning process for the town. The board welcomed a business owner who has expressed interest in participating in this committee and once appointed will be joining the board. Several residents of the town were contacted by the current Chair to encourage their participation; however, only one contact attended that evening.

It is the Planning Board’s desire to have at least one member to represent each zoning area of the Town of Dayton. A request has been made to the South Dayton Village Board for at least three persons to join this Planning Board to represent the village for review and revision of this plan.

The next meeting of the Dayton Planning Board is scheduled for Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
