Dogs removed from Blasdell residence

Ten chihuahuas were removed from a Village of Blasdell home Sunday (May 27) after Village of Blasdell Police were initially called to a Miller Avenue residence following a 911 call.

“I got a 911 misdial,” said Village of Blasdell Officer John Keem III.

Keem said he went to the residence to double-check and make sure there was nothing wrong.

“I looked in the front window,” Keem said, noting at that point he observed dog food and dog feces throughout the house, as well as several dogs.

After several attempts to locate the occupant of the residence, Keem said he went to the side door.

The officer said he noticed the basement door was shut with a shovel and he finally was able to get a response from the occupant.

“I started talking to him downstairs,” Keem said, adding that in his opinion, the living conditions were deplorable.

He then called in Town of Hamburg Code Enforcement and the SPCA for assistance.

“They conducted a search and got the dogs,” Keem said of the SPCA.

The resident was taken for evaluation and no charges have been filed against him at this time.

Village of Blasdell Clerk-Treasurer Janet Plarr said the owner was well past the number of dogs allowed.

“The village code allows you to have three dogs,” Plarr said.

Village of Blasdell Police were at the residence for nearly three hours on Sunday assisting with the removal effort.
