Registration begins for fall classes at the Kenan Center

The Kenan Center will begin accepting registrations for its fall classes, “Children and Music Together with Mary Dunn” and “Ballroom Dancing,” starting Wednesday.

“Children and Music Together,” is a 10-week program geared to ages 3 months to 5 years and is modeled on similar national programs that use music as a tool for early learning development.

All classes incorporate American Sign Language and no additional materials are required. Program director Mary Dunn is an early childhood and elementary school teacher who has been offering a music-based program for preschoolers at the Kenan Center for 15 years.

Classes offered will be:

• “Wonderfully New” for ages 3 to 17 months at 5:15 p.m. on Mondays and 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays.

• “The World Around Me” for ages 18 months to 3 years at 6:15 p.m. on Mondays and 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.

• “Imagination” for ages 3 ½ to 5 years at 4:30 p.m. on Mondays.

Each class is 45 minutes long. Classes start the week of Oct. 1. The cost is $95 for members, $105 for non-members. Registration deadline is Sept. 30.

For those who like to move to the music, the Kenan Center will once again offer a 10-week Ballroom Dancing class taught by veteran instructor, Jackie George. The beginning class introduces students to the basic American Ballroom styles including the foxtrot, waltz, and swing as well as the more exotic Latin styles like tango and cha cha. An intermediate class gives students the opportunity to increase their skills. Fall classes start September 19. Cost is $55 for members; $75 for non-members. Registrations will be accepted through the first class day.

To register call 433-2617 or visit the Kenan Center Business Office, 433 Locust St. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
