The students took part in Science Afloat, which is an unique hands-on aquatic and nautical science program.
“It was a fabulous program,” said teacher Marla Robinson. “We did it last year and Captain Rick and Kate who runs it are phenomenal as well as their crew.”
Students rotate through a series of interactive learning stations involving environmental, aquatic and nautical sciences while they sail on the 73’ schooner on Buffalo’s waterfront.
“The students got to raise the sails, navigate and steer,” said Robinson. “Even one of my students Josh who is in a wheelchair got a chance to drive and he absolutely loved it. They learned so much about the aquatic life around here and exam things up close and really learn about them. It was just a fantastic opportunity for everyone and I was very touched at how much time and energy the crew gave our students. I hope we get to do it again next year.”
