Snow Angels needed in the Village of Hamburg

With the onslaught of winter, comes the snow and ice, which settles on the many sidewalks and driveways within the confines of the Village of Hamburg.

Most residents are able to get out and move the snow after the snow has fallen, but for others it is a physical hardship to get out there, if not an impossibility.

In an effort to lend a helping hand to one’s neighbors, the Village of Hamburg has initiated a Snow Angels Program, where area volunteers (youths are strongly encouraged to join) assist those in need in clearing out those sidewalks and driveways during the winter months.

“This is really an important program, but we need the volunteers,” Mayor Thomas Moses said. “In the past this has been very successful and I hope we can do it again this year. We have many seniors and residents with health issues that need the help.”

To participate in this program, contact Lynn Kieber at lkieber@villagehamburg.com or Recreation Supervisor Josh Haieck at jhaeick@villagehamburg.com or call the Hamburg Village Hall at 649-0200.

The village tries to match the volunteer in the same area of the village as the resident who has a need. All arrangements are made between the volunteer and the resident they are going to assist.

The Snow Angels Program was recognized by the National League of Cities as one of the most successful and creative programs from cities and towns across the country.
