New foods available at Erie County Fair

ERIE COUNTY FAIR
Varying aromas waft through the air, becoming siren calls for patrons at the 173rd annual Erie County Fair, enticing them towards the various different food vendors. While 80 percent of the food available will be returning from last year, there will be nine new food items for fair goers to enjoy.

New to the fair this year will be deep fried peanut butter and jelly, breakfast on a stick, deep fried tacos, chocolate covered bacon, catfish sliders, fish tacos, donut dogs and deep fried butter.

Deep fried kool-aid will be also available. This bizarre concoction consists of kool-aid frozen and dipped in batter before put into a deep fryer, leaving it in until the kool-aid melts into the batter. The deep-fried butter will be done in the same way. Donut dogs will be hot dogs who use glazed donuts as buns instead of bread.

The expected crowd favorite, breakfast on a stick, will be a sausage on a stick covered in pancake batter, and of course, deep fried. Maple syrup and other sides will be offered to keep with the whole breakfast theme.

According to Jeff Horbowicz, the concession manager at the Erie County Fair, the fair searches throughout the year for unique foods, studying other fairs and talking to other concession committees for ideas what to bring to the Erie County Fair.

“Food is the number one item patrons really come to the fair for,” said Horbowicz.
