Dick Lang to talk about new book

Niagara County History Center is pleased to welcome retired coach, game warden and civil servant Richard Lang, who will present a program entitled, “Behind the Badge,” at 2 p.m. on Jan. 10.
As a boy growing up in the 1950s, Dick learned to hunt and fish from his father, and remembers many years when he would enjoy walking behind his dad on the first day of pheasant season.
When he turned 14, he recalls taking the required four-hour hunter safety course and this was his first experience with a NYS Environmental Conservation Officer. He thought the job sounded pretty exciting.
This excitement followed him through school and through a 34-year career in that field.
Lang’s book, “Behind the Bade,” includes many exciting stories including high sped chases, giving a cougar a ride to the zoo in his patrol car, recovering a skeleton, and making one of the first “Hunting-While-Intoxicated” arrests.
Dick has dedicated his book to the many fine folks he met and worked with during his life as a game warden.
“Behind the Badge” is a free, public program and book signing. It will be held at 215 Niagara St.
Books are priced at $20 and are available at the History Center, Erie Canal Discovery Center or at NiagaraHistory.org.
