Town board approves several resolutions

The Town of Clarence Town Board met Wednesday. The meeting began with the Town of Clarence Supervisor David Hartzell’s report.

Hartzell announced that he had received a letter from the Mark Poloncarz county executive stating that a grant was awarded for rural transit services for $265,532. This grant is usually awarded to the Town of Clarence but he stated that, “It’s always good to see it on paper.”

Also at the meeting, Dawn Kinney, executive directory of the Town of Clarence Youth Bureau was approved to attend a youth leadership forum that is sponsored by the Association of New York State Youth Bureaus, New York State Partnership for Children Youth and Families and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. This forum will be held in Albany the weekend of Feb. 11 and 12. Program Coordinator Jessica Notarius was also approved to attend as well as high school students who are members of the youth bureau. This is an event that the youth bureau has attended in the past.

The Town of Clarence Parks Department will also be receiving a new Altec Model AT40-G bucket truck. The cost of this truck will not exceed the amount of $89,875 along with the cost of $1,400 for undercoating, safety striping and radio installation. The current bucket truck is more than 12 years old and is running with more than 100,000 miles on it.

“I think we bought that truck secondhand to get into the bucket business,” said Councilman Patrick Casilio. “It’s definitely time for an upgrade.”

Councilman Robert Geiger announced that the STAR Program is accepting applications through March 1 and encouraged residents to apply.

“It’s something, if you’re of age, you should certainly look into because it’s well worth your while,” he said.

He also mentioned that he and the supervisor had attended a national incident management workshop at the Erie County Fire Training Center.

“We were quite honored to see all the good things they said about the way our Clarence people handled the Flight 3407 incident,” he said.

He added that the majority of the paperwork at the workshop had pertained to Flight 3407.

Clarence resident David Christopher requested a public hearing to build a residential home with a garage to accommodate his equipment for his landscaping business at 7615 Goodrich Road. He plans to have all trucks out of site and all equipment in the garage.

“I want to have a minimal effect on my surroundings, if any,” said Christopher. “I want to make positive adjustments to benefit everyone in the area.”

A public hearing was set for 7:45 p.m. Feb. 13

The next Town of Clarence Town Board meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Town of Clarence Town Hall.
