Ortt selects new Superintendent of Water/Wastewater

City of North Tonawanda Mayor Robert G. Ortt announced his selection for the open position of Superintendent of Water/Wastewater. David A. Scott has been selected to fill the position that was vacated by Paula Sattleberg, who resigned from serving her term under a shared services agreement with the City of North Tonawanda and City of Lockport. Scott was chosen from a certified civil service list of possible candidates. Ortt interviewed a total of three interested candidates from a field of three civil service qualified applicants.

The position duties and salary were renegotiated by the mayor and the department head union in September. The duties were streamlined to include only the water and wastewater plants. The new salary structure results in a savings of approximately $9,000 per step. The previous pay scale called for a salary range of $78,248 to $94,745 for 2013. The new salary for the position ranges from $70,204 to $85,569.

Scott has 27+ years experience working for the City of North Tonawanda, and has worked as a Chief Operator of the Wastewater Treatment Plant since April 2008. Scott has a Grade Four Wastewater Operator License, and he also has a solid track record of implementing and initiating processes to increase plant efficiency.

Ortt stated, “I am pleased to announce Dave Scott as the new water/wastewater Superintendent. Dave brings over 27 years experience to the position and will be responsible for managing our most precious resource. I am confident that he will manage both our water and wastewater treatment plants in an efficient and fiscally responsible way that our taxpayers expect and deserve.”

The selection process will be finalized once the members of the city common council consent to the hire. This action is expected to happen sometime before the end of the year. Scott is a resident of North Tonawanda.
