Ernest Erland Both, 82, of North Collins, died August 26, 2012.
Mr. Both worked at Buffalo Museum of Science, University at Buffalo, Buffalo State College, D’Youville College, Canisius College, Diocesan Preparatory Seminary in Buffalo, Washington University; Curator of Astronomy and Mycology at Buffalo Museum of Science; opened the “Solar Observatory” at Kellogg Observatory; lead scientist in creation of Hall of the Universe 1976, Edward G. Gibson Hall of Space 1983, Lawrence D. Bell Hall of Space Exploration 1986; author or co-author of 25 papers on bolees; wrote The Bolees of North America-A Compendium; recipient of Western New York Pioneers of Science award from Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute in 2006; three mycological colleagues named a new genus of bolee “Bothia” in his honor in 2007; consulted on cases of mushroom poisonings with Poison Control Center at Women’s and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo; member of North Collins School Board, Eden-North Collins Rotary Club; Active Director and Director of Buffalo Museum of Science.
He was the husband of the late Billie Vimmerstedt of Salamanca; father of Ingrid (Rob Kernen) Both, Elfie (Gerald) Kaczanowski and the late Heidi Lavatar and Erik Both; brother of Elfi (Luciano) Modesti and the late Kurth Both; also survived by four grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Wentland Funeral Home, North Collins.
