Why pets should be cherished

Meowing.
Purring.
Annoying the heck out of me.
I tend to get aggravated because I just walked in the door and all I want is a moment of silence. I tell her to leave me alone, and she walks away sad, with her tail between her legs and of course now I feel bad.
I realized my feline friend doesn’t have anybody but me. She sits at home all day, doing whatever she does, and her only excitement is when she hears me walk up the steps everyday. She never expects anything except some treats and to be loved.
Then I realized something else.
I need my pet just as much as she needs me. Whenever I’m having a bad day or I need to let out a good cry, she is always there. Whenever I am sick she lies by my side all day long. Whenever I am busy doing work on my laptop she is always there to lay her head on my lap and keep me company so I never feel alone.
Pets really become members of our family and as much as my cat annoys me sometimes, I’m all she has. We should not adopt pets if we do not have the time or the patience to take care of them.
Pets should be cherished because they love us unconditionally. They don’t care what we look like, or what careers we have, or if we drive nice cars. They just love us for us, and that is a very rare quality to find in this world.
It makes me sick to see animals, like that poor dog Pheonix in Buffalo, be abused by heartless people. That adorable animal would not have hurt a fly and two young morons set the defenseless puppy on fire. Luckily there are enough people who know how precious our animals are and are treating Phoenix and paying for all of the medical bills.
We all need to have respect and compassion for animals. Adopting an animal is the best gift you can give yourself because you are investing in a best friend who will never let you down. When I first adopted my cat, I didn’t really know what I had gotten myself into; yet now I wouldn’t know what I would do without her.
So lets do what we can for our animal friends this holiday and give them the gift of a happy, loving, home. I promise you won’t regret it.
