Enough about the garbage totes already

Ask any resident what the hot topic of the Town of Cheektowaga is and their answer is plain and simple. Garbage totes.
Can we get off of this subject already? The totes are here and they are here to stay. The town has held more meetings with residents about garbage totes than probably any municipality in the world has. Why do you ask? Because the town actually cares and values resident’s input but that input is getting a little extreme.
If it isn’t the color of the totes, or the size of the totes, or that the tote tops are left open after the sanitation workers pick them up, residents have something to complain about.
It’s just a garbage tote.
A garbage tote is really not going to make or break the Town of Cheektowaga. Isn’t there anything else constructive that residents can say to the board? Every single meeting I attend the only thing residents want to talk about is garbage.
I’m sure there are plenty of things that are going on in the community that we could discuss. Perhaps suggestions on how to improve the town’s way of life, or how the town and the school board should work together to improve children’s safety in schools. Just anything besides those chocolate brown garbage totes.
I actually admire the town board for being as patient as they are when it comes to matters like this. They have to answer the same questions and complaints over and over again and they do it in such a professional manner. I know that it is their job to be professional and polite but just attending these meetings and listening to these residents make the most ridiculous complaints can make anyone want to scream.
As I’ve stated, I firmly believe in freedom of speech and I firmly believe in anyone’s right to ask a question but I just think that there are many more important issues at hand than meaningless garbage totes. It does not matter what color the totes are; they are merely used to put garbage in, not to look decorative. It doesn’t matter how big the totes are. They are not heavy, if you do not want to put that much garbage in them, then don’t and it certainly doesn’t matter if a sanitation work leaves a lid on one of them open once in a while; at least you know that your garbage was taken out when you look outside.
Get it together residents. It’s a whole new year in 2013. Let’s not do anymore trash talking.
