Is there any hope left for our college grads?

It seems as if every young adult I speak to always has a story.

A story about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but is this pursuit of happiness unreachable?

Most are starting to believe so.

I spoke with a young woman the other day that went to college to become an x-ray technician. She searched long and hard for a job in her field for more than a year and finally landed one. Yet after working in the hospital for a long while now, she keeps seeing people being let go, or quitting, and their positions are never being filled. This young lady works part time as an x-ray tech and bartends on the weekends to make ends meet. She is the first one in line for a promotion to full time and yet the hospital won’t put her in any of the positions. She is so far in debt that she told me she wishes she never even went to college.

This is a very sad and disheartening statement but nevertheless it is how many college graduates are feeling. The purpose of going to college was to achieve the American dream. It was to one day, be able to look back on hard work, and determination and see a huge light at the end of the tunnel but lately there doesn’t seem to any light; only darkness and a world with no promising hope for the future.

This just has to end.

Honestly If I knew graduating college meant struggling to make ends meet, not being able to pay my student loans on time, and getting denied positions left and right, I wouldn’t have went to college either. Government officials have made so many promises to end this problem but yet the problem seems to be getting worse each and every day.

It is ridiculously unfair that college students who did the right thing by working hard to obtain a better life are now being punished for it. We need some relief and we need to work together to take a stand and say enough is enough. If this economy and job market does not improve sometime soon, we will all have a very sad and depressing road ahead of us.
