The gift that keeps on giving in Cheektowaga

It seems like 2013 is definitely the year for giving in Cheektowaga and I have to say I’m loving every minute of it.
Recently I have had the pleasure of meeting really incredible people who are doing wonderful things for others and it makes me so happy to see especially since so many people in this world are solely focused on themselves.
Crystal Walker of Cheektowaga put together an organization called Bella’s Tea Party in which she gives tea sets to children in need with the help of donations. It is an inspiring effort especially since Walker lost her own daughter, Isabella Tennant nearly five months ago. I applaud her courage and ability to take the high road in a very tragic situation. Now tons of little girls will have a smile on their face thanks to Walker and her friend, who is also highly involved in the organization, Paula Friona.
Matt Schreiner, Owner of ‘Going 4 Life,’ in the Galleria Mall has also been doing something wonderful for children in need. Schreiner has met with the Buffalo Sabres a few times and had them autograph 23 items from his ‘Going 4 Life’ stand. Whenever a little boy with cancer or cerebral palsy passes by his shop in the mall he introduces himself and gives them an autographed hat or t-shirt. The child’s face lights up from ear to ear when they receive something their favorite hero autographed.
Cindy Stani and her daughter Marisa, both Zumba teachers at World’s Gym, Cheektowaga recently put together an event called Zumbathon where they raised $3,000 for the American Heart Association. That amount is nothing to sneeze at and the event had 250 people participating with all proceeds going to the organization. This is something the duo should be very proud of and the money is definitely going to a very important cause.
It’s people doing amazing things for others that make you wonder what you are doing for your community. I think we all need to take a good hard look at what we can do to help others and make a plan of action. It’s these determined, selfless, individuals that make a community strong and you should all be extremely proud of yourselves.
