Collins man arrested for DWAI

New York State Trooper Wayne Osgood interviewed Kaleb Mason, 24, of Collins on July 6, after he drove through a road check on Waits Corners Road in Sherman. Osgood said he smelled marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle.

Mason and the other vehicle occupants said they had been smoking marijuana 20 minutes prior. Mason showed signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs. He was transported to state police headquarters in Jamestown and was evaluated by Chautauqua County Drug Recognition Expert Deputy Forsberg.

Mason was then processed, issued tickets returnable to the town of Sherman Court and released to a sober individual.

Three men arrested in two separate incidents
While on patrol in Colden on June 6, Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Pisa arrested Jamie P. Gavin, 28, of Colden and charged him with driving while intoxicated by drugs, after stopping the subject’s vehicle for erratic operation on Partridge Road near Center Road in Colden.

Gavin submitted to blood testing to determine the level of drugs in his system. The results are pending lab analysis. He was processed at the Elma Substation and released on appearance tickets.

Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy Neil Held arrested Lynn T. John, 19, of Brant on Wednesday, June 6. John was charged with driving while intoxicated and traffic infractions, after he was stopped by Held on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation for failing to dim his high beam headlights on Milestrip Road.

A breath test revealed his blood alcohol content to be .12 percent. He was processed and released on appearance tickets.

During the DWI investigation, Jerrod T. Kennedy, 30, of Collins, who was a passenger in John’s vehicle, was also arrested and charged with unlawful dealing with a child in the first degree, for providing the alcoholic beverages to the 19-year-old driver.

Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Mark D. Dudley, 35, of Gowanda on July 12 in East Otto.

He was arrested on a bench warrant that had been issued from the town of East Otto Court after he was released from the Erie County Holding Center.

Dudley was taken to the town of East Otto Court for arraignment and remanded to Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $500 bail.

Man hits woman with bottle

A Colden man was arraigned on felony criminal mischief charges after he hit a woman in the face with a glass bottle and damaged property in a bar on Old Glenwood Road in the town of Aurora.

According to Aurora police representatives, the incident occurred on June 29 at 9:30 p.m., when Jason S. Penfold, 56, of Lower East Hill Road, began throwing items around the bar, including a bar stool that hit a mirror and glass bottles, one of which struck the bartender in the face. The bottle caused bleeding and swelling and left broken glass in the bartender’s mouth.

Official charges were filed on July 1 and Penfold was arraigned on the following day. He was released on $2,000 bail.
