This included 859 emergency medical service calls and 274 fire calls, miscellaneous, standbys and races.
Out of the 859 emergency medical service calls, the ambulance transported 332 times to the hospital. Each transport can take from one to three hours and sometimes even longer. Hamburg EMS providers spent roughly 600 hours transporting.
Also in 2012, through the hard work of former Fire Chief David O’Brien, the Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department was awarded a $245,000 FEMA grant to purchase 46 state-of-the-art air packs, 46 spare bottles and 46 masks for the air packs. The former air packs that the fire department had were becoming outdated.
