Gorski, Harold J. passed away Jan. 4. He was the husband of Lucine (Homka) Gorski; predeceased by brothers and sisters; survived by nieces and nephews. Harold had a Mass of Christian burial at St. John Gualbert Church. He was a member of the Adam Piewacki Post No. 799.
Haentges, Russell W. departed Jan. 2. Born in Buffalo Dec. 16, 1926, Russell later moved to Cheektowaga. He was pre-deceased by his wife. Rosemarie (nee Heyden) Haentges; father of Russell (Camille) Haentges, Jr., Sheila (Frank) Bork, Randall (Audrey) Haentges, Cheryl (Henry) Miller, Thomas (Nancy) Haentges, Cathleen (Mark) Vess, Mark (Donna) Haentges, Brian (Carol) Haentges; grandfather to 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; brother of Phyllis Stoll, Marlene (Frank) Hunt, and the late Elizabeth Fahs. Russell was a retired Buffalo Policeman, veteran of the U.S.M.C. WWII, Pacific Area Member Amvets Post 14 (Buddy Knaus), current president of WNY Association Retired Law Enforcement Personnel, Inc., Second Marine Division Association and the China Marine Association. Jaworski, Lucy (nee Faltyn) passed away Jan. 3. The Cheektowaga resident was the wife of the late Walter F. Jr.; mother of Sister Denise Marie CSSF and Robert (Angela); grandmother of Michael and Christina; sister of Irene (Chester) Meller, Millie (late Paul) Penke, late Ambrose (Lucille), late Robert (Ann); survived by nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Stanislaus RC Church and she was interred at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Lucy was a proud and active member of St. Stan’s Parish. Kren, Dona W. (nee Wagner) entered eternal rest Jan. 2. She was the wife of the late Joseph L. Kren; daughter of the late Frank P. and Edna S. (nee Bundy) Wagner; mother of Mary I. Kren, Jane F. (Timothy) Roland, Patricia A. (Daniel) Emma, Joseph A. (Karen) Kren, Frank P. (Colleen) Kren, Carolyn M. (Daniel) Block, Barbara J. (Thomas) Barrett and Dona L. (Jack) Kurkowiak; also survived by 16 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, in-laws and cousins. Funeral services were held at St. John Gualbert Church and she was interred at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Kwieciak, Richard S. entered eternal rest Dec. 31. He was the husband of Jane; father of Stanley III, brother of Stanley Kwieciak Jr. and Janet K. Roff; predeceased by his father, Stanley Kwieciak Sr., and his mother, Janet. A Mass of Christian burial was held at Villa Maria Convent Chapel. Memorials can be made in Richard’s honor to the Felician Franciscan Sisters at Villa Maria Convent, 600 Doat St., Buffalo, NY 14211. The Daniel R. Smolarek Funeral Home made arrangements.
Liberti, Silvio passed away Jan. 3. Silvio was born in Anversa, Abruzzi, Italy. Liberti was born May 18, 1930 and later moved to Cheektowaga. He was the husband of Christina I. (nee Tabone) Liberti; father of Joseph (Jackie) and Dr. Rita Marie Liberti; son of the late Arcangelo and Anna Rita (nee D’Spinoza) Liberti; brother of Angela Pailucci, Joann Agnitti, and the late Nunzio and Dominic Liberti; also survived by nieces and nephews. There was a Mass of Christian burial at Infant of Prague Church. Memorials may be made to Hospice Buffalo, Inc., 225 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga, NY 14227.
Lodyga, Eugene F. passed away Jan. 3 following a long illness. He was the husband of Helen D. (nee Marek); father of Geraldine (Robert) Shanahan, David Lodyga, Denise (Robert) Potozniak, Claudia (Marc) Reed, and Dwayne Lodyga; grandfather “gramps” of 12 grandchildren; papa of 12 great-grandchildren; son of the late Ignatius and Eva Lodyga. A funeral service at St. Barnabas Church took place. Gene was a WWII Naval veteran who served on the USS Subchaser No. 1048 and saw active duty in the South Pacific on USS Sarsefield. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, 50th Commander of the Adam Piewacki Post No. 799 and was Sergeant at Arms for the Erie County American Legion. Gene was also a member of the Schiller Park Senior Center and the Cheektowaga Patriotic Commission. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of WNY. Markert, Joyce R. entered eternal rest Dec. 31, 2010. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania Jan. 19, 1933, but later took up residence in Cheektowaga. She was the wife of Albert Markert; mother of Richard P. Markert, Christine M. (Walkowiak) Vogel, and Pamela A. (John) Schrimmel; grandmother of Jillian and Derek Walkowiak, Matthew, Justin and Kaitlin Schrimmel; great-grandmother of Emma Irene Watson; mother-in-law of John Walkowiak; sister of George Bartlett, the late Ethel Eaton, James, Clyde (Madeline), Lloyd (Betty) Bartlett, Sharon (Andrew) Rebo, Richard (Rosemarie), George and Theodore (Roseanne) Bartlett. Matuszewski, Eugene J. “Gene” passed away Jan. 3. He was a resident of Cheektowaga. Gene was the husband of Mildred A. (nee Cwiklinski) Matuszewski; father of Caroline (Roger) Preston, Melvin (Linda), Paul (Leonora) and Glenn (Margaret) Matuszewski; grandfather of six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother of Helen Matuszewski, and predeceased by two sisters. A Mass of Christian burial was held at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and interment is at St. Adalbert Cemetery. Gene was an Army veteran of WWII, who served with the 82nd airborne, a member of the American Legion Adam Piewacki Post No. 799, and an avid bowler. Contributions made in Gene’s memory can be sent to the hospice unit at the V.A. Hospital.
Maue, Norma A. (nee Kobel) entered eternal rest Jan. 1. She was the mother of Richard (Loretta) Maue, Patricia (Russell) Nucaste, Pamela (Peter Sloane) Maue and Jeffrey (Susan) Maue; grandmother of Michele (Daniel) Shinners, Cynthia (Nicholas) Hoerner, Amy (Eddie) Carmack, Christy (Marcos Hernandez) Nucaste and Christopher Maue; great-grandmother of Kaylee, Aidan, Cole, Addison, Zachary and Ethan; sister of Dorothy (Robert) Volls, Ronald (Patricia) Kobel and the late Mickey (Janet) Kobel; also survived by nieces and nephews. McCarthy, Theresa A. (nee Pasto) passed away Dec. 30. She was born in Franklinville and resided in Cheektowaga. Theresa was the wife of the late Robert J. McCarthy; mother of Kathleen (Jeff) Shilling, Colleen (Matt) O’Hern and Kevin (Maureen) McCarthy; grandmother of Dylan, Keegan, Kyle, Ryan, Sean, Carly, Bridget, Meghan and Jason; sister of Beatrice Pasto, Mary (Ron) Roberto and the late James (Kathie) Pasto; also survived by nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Infant of Prague Church. She will be interred at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Williamsville. Pilarski, Donald P. entered eternal rest Jan. 2. The Sloan resident was 74 years old. He was the son of the late Steven and Martha Pilarski; brother of Edward (Lorraine) Pilarski; uncle of Donna (Bob) Lasota, Michael (Elizabeth) Pilarski and Ricky Pilarski; survived by several great-nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held at St. Andrew RC Church in Sloan. Donald was a retired chief engineer for the Buffalo Board of Education.
