Hamburg resident wins iPad in Metro online contest
Lakeview resident Mary Schreiner was named winner of a special online contest held in promotion of Metro’s new smart phone application; she visited Metro’s corporate offices recently to claim her prize, an Apple iPad 2. “When I received Metro’s call at work [about winning the prize], I didn’t know whether or not to believe it,” Schreiner remembered.
As a chemistry professor, Schreiner is no stranger to technology. She regularly uses an iPod Touch, but the expanded capabilities of the iPad 2 will be even more useful. She cites numerous smart phone applications relevant to the sciences, including a molecule-of-the-day program that details chemicals and how they are used, several applications for using the Periodic Table of the Elements and even some that generate three-dimensional renderings of complex molecules.
