Cattaraugus County program for cancer screening

CATTARAUGUS COUNTY — The Cancer Services Program of Cattaraugus County added its recommendation to the American Cancer Society that women 40 and older should have annual mammograms. The organization suggested that a clinical breast exam be done by a physician, prior to the mammogram.

The Cancer Services Program is a grant-funded program that pays for mammograms, clinical breast exams and pap tests for women 40 and older who do not have health insurance. Women and men age 50 and older may also receive “fit kits” at no cost. The kits are designed to use in the privacy of one’s home, to screen for colorectal cancer.

Anyone who is uninsured and is interested in receiving a kit or obtaining cancer-screening services may contact the Cattaraugus County Cancer Services Program at 585-593-4839.
