Susan G. Komen WNY affiliate’s new executive director

SPRINGVILLE — The Western New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® named Juliana Janson its executive director of the local Komen WNY affiliate, effective Sept. 17.

As executive director, Janson will be responsible for directing Komen’s stated mission in Western New York, “A promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science, to find the cure.”

“Juliana will be an excellent addition to the organization. Her experience, commitment and passion will help us increase our impact in Western New York,” said Colleen Nossavage, board president of the Western New York affiliate.

Janson said, “I look forward to working with the Komen staff, volunteers and the Western New York community, to further the mission to end a disease that has touched virtually everyone.”

Janson earned a Master of Business Administration Degree from Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from SUNY Buffalo.

The new executive came to Komen from the HPA Consulting Group. As vice president there, she provided guidance to companies and customers involving governmental relations, compliance and operations.

Janson previously worked as the director of regulatory affairs for Frontier Communications Corporation. She is currently on the board of trustees of Goodwill of WNY and serves on the boards of the Greater Rochester Women’s Council and the Great Lakes Experience.

The Komen organization has $3 million in local breast health and breast cancer awareness projects in WNY. Up to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the affiliate remain in WNY, with the other income’s going to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program.
