Veterans must meet the age criteria, be unemployed, have an other-than-dishonorable discharge, not be eligible for any other VA education benefit program, not be in receipt of VA compensation, due to individual unemployability and not be enrolled in a federal or state job training program.
Applications for the VRAP are currently being accepted. Participating veterans may receive up to 12 months of assistance, equal to the full-time Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty rate, effective immediately. Assistance under this program ends March 31, 2014.
Unemployed veterans with a service-related injury may qualify for more vocational rehabilitation and employment benefits.
One of the local agencies that can help unemployed veterans who qualify receive job training is the Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES, through its adult education program. Contact Team Leader for Employment Prep Theresa Schueckler at 376-8278.
