On the watch in Gowanda to help their neighbors
Friday August 3, 2012 | By:Press Release |

It was a night of food, family, friends, and community. The theme of the party was getting to know your neighbors and learning to look out for each other. It was great to see everyone of all ages come together.
There was one couple who attended the event, they have lived on this street for over 60 years, and another resident who lived on the street for over 40 years. Ironically, this party was the first time they had a true opportunity to talk to each other.
This gathering also proved to be a meet and greet for folks new to the neighborhood.
Host Karen Clabeaux stated, "We hope other streets continue this trend. Gowanda is a great community and if we all make an effort to know our neighbors better, we will see our entire community grow in a positive way!"
Gowanda Neighborhood Watch wants to keep the safe party theme going. If anyone wants to plan a street party in the village, the Neighborhood Watch group will have more information available on how to start organizing a street party at the National Night Out event.
National Night Out, sponsored locally by the Gowanda Neighborhood Watch and Gowanda PTA, is a crime and drug prevention event that will be held Tuesday, Aug.7 from 6 to 9 p.m. This year is the 29th anniversary of this event with over 37 million people across the country expected to participate. The event was also designed to generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships.
Everyone is invited to the Gowanda American Legion for demonstrations by the Gowanda Police, Gowanda Fire and Gowanda Ambulance. Free Child ID program, representatives from various clubs and organizations including the Explorer Program, 4-H, Boy Scouts and more. There will be music, food and fun activities for kids.
In addition, Gowanda merchants are also taking part in National Night Out by offering various specials. Area residents are urged to visit their businesses as well. For example, Reds Dogs & Cones has an ice-cream cone special that night.
