The Gernatts Babe Ruth Baseball team (ages 15 and under) avenged an earlier season loss to Frewsburg by defeating the host team on July 27. The game ended after five innings as Gernatts was ahead by a score of 12-1 and the Mercy Rule was applied.
The visitors wasted no time in getting on the board as Jon McCarthy rapped a single on the game's first pitch. Joe Kruszka followed that up with a run scoring double. Matt Kruszka reached base on a walk and Shane DeLeo knocked in Joe Kruszka that put Gernatts up 2-0 before the home team came to bat.
DeLeo started on the mound for Gernatts and pitched out of a first-inning jam to hold Frewsburg scoreless. Gernatts scored two more in the third as Matt Kruszka and Carter Benton produced run-scoring hits. Frewsburg came back with a run in the bottom of the third, but that would be the only time they would cross home plate.
In the top of the fourth, Jack Van Wey walked followed by a Shawn Daniels single. That set the table for Gernatts' top four hitters (McCarthy, Joe Kruszka, Matt Kruszka and Benton) as they continued to pound the ball and collect three hits apiece in the contest. When the inning was over, Gernatts had blown the game wide open and led 11-1. They also added an insurance run in the fifth. When Frewsburg failed to score in the bottom of the fifth, Gernatts walked off the field with a convincing win. DeLeo pitched well in a complete game effort.
Gernatts' latest win pushed their overall record to 10-3. They also secured a spot in the East Lake Babe Ruth League semi-finals against Southwestern that was scheduled at Jamestown's Diethrick Park on July 30.
