At the Buffalo State track meet on Dec. 2, Springville-GI senior Brian McNerny won first place with his 4:47.3 finish in the 1-mile.

According to S-GI Coach Joseph Marvin, this is first time McNerny has finished in first place; Marvin credited the runner’s victory to his efforts in fulfilling the role of past teammate Chad Maloy, with whom McNerny ran throughout his experience in track.

Other results from the meet include those of Brooke Reed, Hanna Hebden and McKenzie Maloy, who finished in second place in the girls 4-by-800 relay with a time of 11:21. Their time in the relay qualified the trio for sectionals.

McKenzie also finished in second place in the 2-mile with a time of 12:21.5.

In the high jump competition, Tom Michaels had a jump of 5 feet 8 inches, landing him in second place and qualifying him for sectionals, as well.

The next track meet was held on Friday, Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Field House.
