Through its 11 games so far this season, the Springville-Griffith junior varsity team has yet to lose, recording three shutouts and reaching double digits in runs seven times. All except two of the games were won by more than 6 runs.

Two matches were rescheduled. Springville was scheduled to play at home against Maryvale on Tuesday, May 8 at 5 p.m. at the Concord Community Park and will play in Depew on Saturday, May 12 at noon.

The winning stretch began on Monday, April 2 – the start of the season – with a 16-2 win on the road against Pioneer. The Springville squad defeated Fredonia 9-2 in Springville’s home opener. Two days later, the Griffins improved to 3-0 after winning against Amherst 15-4 in another home victory.

On Monday, April 9, the Griffins visited Fredonia and defeated the home team by a 15-3 count. The S-GI team manufactured its biggest margin of victory to date the next day and its first shutout of the season, beating Tonawanda 27-0.

Day three of the four-day stretch saw a home game against Gowanda, the first of a home-and-home set with that opponent. The first match was close, but Springville bumped its record up to 6-0 with a 6-4 win, despite scoring its fewest runs of the season to that point. The following day’s game in Gowanda racked up a 10-4 win for S-GI.

The Griffins faced another set of consecutive games with three games in three evenings from Monday, April 16 - Wednesday, April 18. The first game at home versus East Aurora is still the closest game Springville has been involved in, as the team scored 3 runs, its lowest total of the season. The defense limited East Aurora to 2 scores, sealing a 1-run victory for the Griffins.

On April 19, Springville beat Eden in a scrimmage by an 11-4 score. The following day, it was another shutout, this time by 6 runs for the 6-0 win in a road game against Cheektowaga. That victory sent Springville to a 10-0 record.

After a delay due to a few rescheduled games, Springville got back on the field Monday, April 30. The squad recorded its second straight shutout and third of the year when it won over Amherst for the second time this season, this time with a 17-0 final. That game represented the team’s second largest margin of victory, to date.

Springville then completed a stretch of three games in three days, beginning on Wednesday, May 2. The Griffins played in East Aurora on Wednesday and hosted Pioneer on Thursday, May 3. The team’s next matchup will be at S-GI, when the team hosts Cheektowaga at 4:30 p.m. before getting another weekend to regroup.
