Losses drop WVCS JV soccer record

WEST VALLEY — The offense has tapered off as the season has progressed, for the West Valley junior varsity boys soccer team. On Tuesday, Oct. 2, the boys were shut out in North Collins, by a score of 3 – 0. “The Wildcats defense and ball-control improved greatly, since the first meeting last month,” said Coach Kristopher Fuller. “The first meeting of the year, the Wildcats faced 30 shots to only 12 in the second meeting.” Mike Grigsby was in goal and made 9 saves, in the losing effort.

Two days later, West Valley was back on the field and got shut out again, this time at home against Frewsburg. The final score was 4 – 0, as opposed to the 8 – 1 loss West Valley suffered on Sept. 11, against the same team. “We were able to cut the Bears’ goals scored in half,” Fuller said. Grigsby had 20 saves.

“Despite two straight losses, the Wildcats have made strides in improving as a team,” Fuller said. The team’s record was 4 – 7, heading into a road game on Tuesday, Oct. 9 against Archbishop Walsh. After that, the boys traveled to Chautauqua Lake on Thursday, Oct. 11. The team’s next game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at home against Maple Grove on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
