Springville track team competes at Buffalo State

SPRINGVILLE — Springville’s indoor track season began on Friday, Dec. 7 when athletes from Springville-Griffith Institute competed at Buffalo State College.

Lexi Lines participated in the first event, 55 hurdles, and finished in first place. Her 9.49 time was not only a sectional qualifier, but also a school record.

In the 3,000, McKenzie Maloy represented Springville by finishing in first, with a time of 12:05. Springville’s Elle Russell also finished in the top six, coming in fifth, at 12:28.

Tyler Olrogg came in sixth in the 3,200. His time was 11:30. In the 1,000, Jessica Wojtkowiak came in second “by a hair,” according to Coach Joe Marvin, with a 3:19 time. She was a sectional qualifier. In addition, Joe Cocina came in fourth at 2:57.3 and Samantha Peterman’s time of 3:27.3 was good for fifth.

Hanna Hebden came in fourth in the 600, with 1:57.2, and Lines competed again, in the 55-meter dash, completing the race in 8.2 seconds, for third place.

Wojtkowiak headlined the 1,500 with a sectional-qualifying time of 5:16, to finish in first.

The top three runners in that event were all from Springville, as Kalei Brautlacht came in second and Peterman finished third. Their times were 5:35 and 5:36, respectively.

Cocina won the 1,600 with a time of 5:01, as schoolmate Olrogg came in fourth, at 5:12.

In the group activities, the team of Wojtkowiak, Maloy, Hebden and Braulacht finished second in the 4-by-800, with a time of 11:01.8.

Finishing fifth was the foursome of Peterman, Meghan Loop, Russell and Meghan Brooks. Their time was 12:10.

In the 4-by-400, Joelle Adamcyzk, Sierra Brown, Hebden and Maloy came in first, at 4:49.7. Cocina, Justin Dewitt, Olrogg and Tom Schewickert finished third, with a time of 4:09.4.
