West Valley loses seven straight

WEST VALLEY — A 1 – 1 tie in Pine Valley on Thursday, Oct. 18 was the West Valley girls varsity soccer team’s seventh straight game without a win, but, even with a 4 – 8 – 2 record, the girls are heading to the playoffs.

West Valley trailed, early in the first half, when Pine Valley’s Jessica Wilcox scored the first goal of the game, but West Valley’s Rachael Zimmer tied the game, midway through the second half, after converting on a Kaitlyn Snayczuk pass. Despite scoring chances for both teams in overtime, the score remained the same.

Although they were 0 – 5 – 2 in their final seven games, the West Valley girls advanced to the playoffs. During the first round, WVCS was the host team.

That game was held on Wednesday, Oct. 24 against Pine Valley, a rematch of the regular season’s final game. West Valley finished the season in fourth place, while Pine Valley came in fifth.

The winner of that game will play top-seeded Ellicottville at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Pioneer.
