After opening the season by getting shut out in three straight games by a combined score of 4 – 0, Springville mustered a 1 – 0 shutout of its own and followed that up with a 5 – 1 win on Sept. 13.
On Sept. 17, Emily Sion put Springville on the board at home against Hamburg, helped by an assist by Jena Schelble. Following that Springville move, Hamburg had 1 goal of its own and the game ended in a 1 – 1 tie.
At that point, Springville had three games without a loss and a 2 – 3 – 1 record after opening 0 – 3. Both goals in that game were scored in overtime.
“Carrie Dickinson had a great game in goal, not allowing any goals in regulation time,” said Coach Kerri Voit. “Everyone on the team gave a solid effort to walk away with the tie.”
On Friday, Sept. 21, the girls hit the field again. This time, they were on the road against East Aurora, but could not continue their scoring touch on the trip.
East Aurora pulled away with a 7 – 0 blow to Springville, snapping the undefeated streak and sending the Lady Griffs’ record to 2 – 4 – 1.
Springville played again on Sept. 25 against Pioneer and on Sept. 27 versus Amherst. Both games were played at home.
The junior varsity girls soccer team will host Lake Shore in its next game on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 4:30 p.m.
