BUFFALO –– Springville-Griffith Institute boys varsity swimmers and Springville Waves Aquatic Team members swam for Carly’s Club on Aug. 12.
Springville swimmers Garrett Olrogg, Mitchell Bunic and Elliott Tessmer raised nearly $900 for Carly’s Club, which, through fundraisers like this, collects money for pediatric cancer research.
The threesome swam a 1-mile, non-competitive swim at Gallagher Beach in Buffalo during a meet that included more than 350 other swimmers, including the school’s assistant varsity track team coach.
Bunic also swam the competitive, timed, 1-mile event and finished second in his age group, third in his gender and fifth overall. He swam nearly 3 minutes faster than he did last year, recording a time of 22:46.
The boys said they are looking forward to their varsity swim season at S-GI and hope that more Springville athletes will join them for next year’s Carly’s Crossing event, which raised $161,000 this year and is now beyond the $1 million mark for pediatric cancer research.
