SCENe offers senior fitness classes
The first will be “Movin’ to Music,” which Krebs described as a “fun standing and sitting exercise routine accompanied by varied music.
“There are no prerequisites for this class,” she added. “Anyone can do it. Men and women alike enjoy Kim Robbins’ fitness classes.”
The class will begin on Monday, Oct. 15 and will run six consecutive Mondays, ending on Monday Nov. 19. Classes will be held in the community room in the Love INC building, from 10:30 – 11:15 a.m.
Robbins has been teaching fitness classes for 23 years. She is an Aerobics and Fitness Association of America-certified instructor and personal trainer. Classes she has taught include: Bootcamp, Core & More, Body Ball, and Zumba®. Robbins said that she has “a particular fondness” for customers older than 50.
The second fitness class SCENe is offering is “Tai Chi for Falls Prevention.” Krebs noted that this will be the same program that was offered last year. Each participant will receive a DVD so he or she may follow the routines at home. The six weekly classes will begin Wednesday, Oct. 10 and run through Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 1:15 – 2 p.m. Tai Chi classes will also be led in the Love INC community room.
Martha Kemsley and Audrey Skelton will be the Tai Chi facilitators. Skelton said she does this routine with her husband each evening and added that she is “sleeping better and the rhythmic breathing helps ease the stresses of the day.”
“Physical activity is so important and as one ages it is imperative to maintaining flexibility, balance and strength,” said Krebs. “I know how difficult it is to be motivated to exercise when arthritis or chronic pain is a daily companion. It really is easier to do it with a friend.”
The stated goal of both programs is to encourage people to find ways to build activity into their lives.
Krebs said, “SCENe will partner with Bertrand Chaffee Hospital and the Springville Health and Fitness Gym to offer some valuable health and wellness programs, this fall. Jerry Czora from the gym will be a featured speaker in SCENe’s Wellness Series later this month.”
