West Valley girls shine in track meet on April 17

On April 17, the West Valley girls track team defeated both Franklinville and Portville, broke a school record and took first place in a series of other competitions against the Wildcats’ opponents.
According to Coach Kristopher Fuller, the highlight of the meet was the new school record set by Jordan Seltzer, Janae Hamilton, Megan Bailey and Rachael Zimmer in the 4 by 100-meter relay, as the girls finished the competition in 53.9 seconds.
In addition to winning this event, Jessica Wojtowicz, Seltzer, Bailey and Hamilton also worked together to take first place in the 4 by 400-meter, as the team finished with a time of 4:48:7.
Other first place statistics from the meet included Zimmer’s winning the 200-meter in 28.7, as well as the 100-meter hurdles in 17.8. Hamilton won the 400-meter in 1:05:5 and Kelsey Chai doubled to win both the 1,500-meter and the 3,000-meter. Hannah Doro took first in the triple jump with a leap of 30 feet 2 inches.
Although the boy’s team lost to both Franklinville and Portville, Alex Steinbroner won the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.9.
The next meet for the West Valley track team will be at the Olean Invitational at 10 a.m. on April 28. The team also had a meet in Salamanca on April 24, but the scores from that invitation were not reported by press time.
