On a cold but clear day, the Gowanda Varsity Softball Team defeated Silver Creek by a score of 21-5.
The Blue and White raced out to an early lead and were never threatened.
It was the second home game of the season for the Panthers but their first win at Panther Park. With the non-league victory, Gowanda improved their overall season record to 3 wins and 3 losses.
The offense came alive and scored 21 runs while collecting just nine hits. Skylar Ondus, Alexa Farner, Sydney Gominiak and Hunter White each had a key hit the game.
Defensively, Karen Snow was brought up from the JV team and started on the mound. She pitched the first four innings and recorded the win. Junior C.J. Sawatis came on in relief and also pitched well over the last three innings. Catcher Breann John was steady from behind the plate and made several good plays.
Coach Amanda Hillebert's squad will be back in action on Monday, April 16 as they host the Jamestown Red Raiders. The first pitch is scheduled at 4:30 p.m. The JV team travels to Jamestown on the same day. That game will also throw out the first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
